Posture, postural control, and gait are intimately associated. Musculoskeletal pain can influence each of these functions and lead to a cascade of increasing pain, fall risks, and fear-avoidance behavior.

While the evidence remains mixed regarding the exact relationship between forward head posture and stability, we know that FHP can impact vestibular function and proprioception. The changes to proprioception can negatively impact sensory integration and postural control.

For patients with musculoskeletal pain, the importance of a movement-based assessment can not be overstated. Understanding the static posture and dynamic movement patterns are essential to establishing the proper treatment plan. Our practice provides a thorough evaluation to identify postural challenges and address them from a segmental, regional, and whole-body perspective to help our patients feel and function better.
