Chronic low back pain (cLBP) and chronic neck pain (cNP) are the most common types of chronic pain. It’s estimated that their combined prevalence is between 10%-20%.

With guidelines now recommending movement-based care such as chiropractic instead of pharmacological treatment involving medications, it’s essential to understand the current utilization patterns.

Chronic pain is often managed instead of cured. Due to lifestyle, previous injuries, and job-related functions, ongoing care is often necessary. Care that emphasizes the resilience of the spine and provides movement (segmental, regional, and whole-body) may be the most valuable as it addresses many of the primary issues that challenge the stability of those in chronic pain.

This study found that those with chronic pain seeing a chiropractor averaged about two visits per month. They concluded this was not due to a dependence on care but rather the functional benefits provided by the care they received. If you have patients with chronic pain that would like to explore nonpharmacological options for relief, we would be happy to provide an evaluation and determine if chiropractic may be able to help.

“It is estimated that 30% of patients with spinal pain have visited a chiropractor….”

“Chiropractic patients with cLBP and cNP use a range of visit frequencies for their ongoing care.”

“Several provider-based nonpharmacological therapies have been recommended for chronic spinal pain, and these therapies may be used on a long-term ongoing basis by patients for pain management.”

We believe patients have better outcomes when their
health professionals work together.
