The American College of Physicians recently began recommending nonpharmacological treatment, including chiropractic, as a first-line approach to treating back pain. Movement-based care appears to provide the best short and long-term benefits without the dangers and side effects of opioids.
Unfortunately, many gains in the opioid epidemic have been wiped out over the last few years as patients have been more isolated and sedentary due to Covid.
A driving force behind the opioid epidemic has been the treatment of chronic pain. With over 30% of people with acute low back pain transitioning to chronic low back pain, the ability to deliver the best treatment options early on is imperative.
This study looked at over 100,000 patients and discovered that people who utilized chiropractic care early in their recovery reduced their likelihood of filling an opioid prescription by over 50%. Our practice is happy to work with providers in the community to help patients receive the best evidence-informed care to treat their neuromusculoskeletal issues.
“The Institute of Medicine has recommended the use of non pharmacological therapies as effective alternatives to pharmacotherapy for patients with chronic musculoskeletal pain.”
“Among US adults prescribed opioids, 59% reported having back pain.”
“Among patients with spinal pain disorders, for recipients of chiropractic care, the risk of filling a prescription for an opioid analgesic over a six-year period was reduced by half, as compared with non recipients.”

We believe patients have better outcomes when their
health professionals work together.
