A recent randomized controlled trial compared the effectiveness of cervical spine manipulation (CSM), thoracic spine manipulation (TSM), and conventional physiotherapy (CPT) for managing cervicogenic headaches (CgH).

The study found that cervical spine manipulation was the most effective treatment, significantly reducing headache frequency, intensity, and disability compared to thoracic manipulation and conventional physiotherapy. Patients receiving CSM also experienced more significant improvements in neck pain frequency, intensity, and overall quality of life measures.

The results highlight that CSM offers faster and more sustained relief from cervicogenic headaches, making it a highly effective non-pharmacological treatment option for chronic headache sufferers. This evidence underscores the value of chiropractic care as part of a multidisciplinary approach to managing chronic headaches and neck pain.

Collaboration between healthcare providers and chiropractors can lead to better
patient outcomes, reduced pain, and improved quality of life while minimizing reliance on long-term medication use.

Cervical spine manipulation (CSM) was found to be superior to thoracic manipulation and conventional physiotherapy for improving days with cervicogenic headache, as well as headache and neck pain disability, up to 6 months.”

“CSM resulted in significant reductions in cervicogenic headache frequency, neck pain intensity, and neck disability index, demonstrating both clinical and functional benefits over other treatments.”

“The findings suggest that cervical spine manipulation is a highly effective, non-pharmacological intervention for chronic headache sufferers, emphasizing its role in improving patient quality of life.”

We believe patients have better outcomes when
their health professionals work together.
