A Year in Review
Bit of a stretch from my last post but there is no better time than our one year anniversary to get back on the saddle!
Welcome back to the blog where today where we are talking about/celebrating our first year!! It seems almost cliché to say it but it’s the truth…this went by in a blink of an eye.
Life with two young children has taught me that certain things can bend and accelerate time like no other. This concept, as a result, isn’t necessarily new to me but it still sneaks up on you even when you’re prepared for it…
Despite the fact that all of 2 people are likely reading this (hi mom and dad!), I hope that writing this down will help me remember the first year with a greater degree of detail than my brain might allow on recall years from now.
Winter 2020/2021
Though it was fast, it certainly wasn’t without intrigue. With purchase in January, the difficulties of buildout, the situation with Camp Sixx across the street, a break-in and of course our old pal COVID, it was interesting before it was even open. I even got to be on TV, twice!
Spring 2021
Despite all of that, we prevailed and were able to officially open our doors on April 19th, 2021.
I found an excellent candidate for office manager but due to the logistics of moving across country she would be unable to start until June. Thankfully, I found Annel Alvarez who did a fantastic job bridging the gap. Smart, funny, and an EXCELLENT DANCER, she helped make sure we got off the ground smoothly and helped train Addison when she arrived.
Speaking of Addison, I struggled initially with the idea of opening 3 months before she would arrive but after discussing it with friends and fellow business owners it was clear the wait would be worth it. I was convinced after our first two interactions that she was a perfect fit and yet she somehow managed to exceed my expectations.
The amount of compliments I receive from patients about her is staggering. Her position is a difficult one – she is the first person you interact with and the last person you see before you leave. She needs to make you feel welcome and want to come back all while asking for your money, not an easy thing to do. Despite that immense pressure, she never fails to impress people and I am grateful to have her here.
After opening in late April the job of building the business was priority one and Covid certainly did not make that very easy. Hospitals and primary care offices in the area (my wheelhouse) were not accepting visitors and I was forced to rely entirely on word of mouth and traditional brand building methods (no pun intended).
Summer/Fall 2021
We hosted a beautiful open house in May – not pictured because why would I document that? SMH…
Despite no photographic evidence, it was a beautiful day and a great event. We had food catered by Beloved KC, now owners of the newly revamped Classic Cookie in Waldo. While people enjoyed the delicious food, they were treated to a string trio from members of the Kansas City Symphony!
Over the summer, Method sponsored multiple golf tournaments (Swing for the Cure and Holey Hooley) and in the fall we were lucky to host Runner’s Edge for a Saturday jaunt through the Plaza and Westport. It was their first run from the new office and we had a wonderful turn out – see you all again in two weeks ; )
Spring 2022
In the spring, Method Chiropractic was a sponsor for the St. Peter’s PTA Auction as well which raised over $200,000 for the school.
We capped off the year with a happy hour to celebrate the office turning one. I somehow managed to get Quixotic to perform at the event and we got lots of compliments on the food from Taco Cacao.
With over a hundred people in attendance, I was touched by all the love and support we received. Though a little windy, it was an excellent day and a great kick off for year two.
It truly has been a whirlwind and a great start to what I hope is a life-long business venture. For those patients that are reading I hope you know how much I appreciate your patronage and support and I hope that we have served you at a high standard. To the family, friends, and business partners who have supported me over this last year through referral, partnerships, or even just a kind word at an opportune moment…thank you from the bottom of my heart.
